Sponsor Adoptions, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to reduce euthanasia rates in area shelters through the use of social media, marketing and financial support.
Every day, countless animals arrive at area shelters. Many are strays who have never had the opportunity to give unconditional love to a family while others are surrendered from homes due to financial hardships, housing issues, or abuse and neglect. City and community funded animal shelters are often at maximum capacity and, due to space restrictions, are forced to give animals a time limit of just a few days. If a particular pet is not adopted or rescued in that time period, the shelter may have no choice but to euthanize the animal to make room for another unfortunate pet.
The majority of animal shelters have historically done a good job of getting animals off the streets, taking care of them while in their custody and processing adoptions as they occur. However many shelters are understaffed, underpaid and over-worked. Under their current business models many such shelters do not have the funds or time to take advantage of social media and other internet marketing strategies to tell the public about the many wonderful animals waiting for homes! We believe that much can be done to re-home these shelter pets.
Sponsor Adoptions works specifically on three fronts to ensure that the animals in area shelters have the best chance to live out their lives in a happy home:
- First, by partnering with social networking groups we raise awareness about animals in the shelters. We frequently hear stories of people who come across a picture of an animal through a social media site and feel instantly connected. They often take immediate action to adopt or rescue the animal, saving him from euthanasia, sometimes by mere minutes. Many animals featured on our partner social media sites have medical issues preventing them from finding a permanent home. Social media has helped find generous donors who feel compelled to donate funds to ensure that these animals are well cared for and adopted. We facilitate that through the use of individual “chip-in” funds where people can donate money to a specific animal that they’d like to see saved. This effort has lead to many happy endings for animals and their rescuers and adopters. (Check out our success stories here!)
- Secondly, Sponsor Adoptions, as a 501(c)(3), is able to raise funds and partner with local veterinarians to provide discounted veterinary services to adopters and pet owners in the community who may be struggling financially with their pet’s medical needs. The recent economic downturn has burdened many Americans, and an often neglected side of that issue is that family pets suffer as well. Many people encounter the impossible situation of having to give up their pet due to a loss of income. With Sponsor Adoptions’ help, pet owners who find themselves in these circumstances are offered other alternatives. As an active animal welfare agency in the DFW area, we are often able to support the needs of animals and their owners for emergency veterinary treatments, boarding, and many times, even general necessities such as food, bedding, and training. This could not be possible without the help of all the animal lovers in the community. (If you’d like to contribute financially or donate items please click here.)
- Lastly, we are currently exploring efforts to increase adoptions by raising awareness of shelter pets through the funding of part-time marketing personnel at area shelters. These positions would focus solely on showcasing the many healthy adoptable pets to the public and facilitating their adoption.
With your help and generosity, struggling families can keep their pets and more shelter pets can be placed in permanent loving homes!
